Product Details

Every SOGAMA hat begins in the same place: a young toquilla palm shoot, harvested before the leaves have opened. What follows is an entirely manual process — no machines, no shortcuts. Our classic standard hat is handwoven in Ecuador over a period of 8 hours.

  • Genuine Toquilla Straw
  • Handwoven in Ecuador
  • Lightweight & breathable
  • UV sun protection
  • Unisex fit

Please remember that our hats are handmade, so the size can change a little bit. Slight variations in color or pattern may occur due to the nature of the handmade acetate production. Each piece may exhibit unique color and pattern characteristics, making each accessory one-of-a-kind.

You will receive an elegant complimentary carton box specially designed to take care of your hat.

Our Craftsmanship

At SOGAMA, we partner with Ecua-Andino, one of Ecuador's most respected Panama hat makers, to bring authentic handcrafted hats to customers in the United States. Every hat is woven in Ecuador by experienced artisans using genuine Toquilla straw and traditional techniques passed down through generations.

Despite the name, Panama hats have never been made in Panama. They are entirely Ecuadorian — born on the western coast of Ecuador, where toquilla palm grows in a uniquely ideal climate: salt air from the Pacific meeting equatorial sunshine. For centuries, artisans in towns like Montecristi and Cuenca have woven these hats by hand, passing the craft down through generations. The name is a historical accident.

Our role is to carefully select premium products that meet the standards our customers expect—so you can shop with confidence, knowing every piece has been chosen for its quality and craftsmanship.

Our goal is for every customer to be totally satisfied with their purchase. If this isn't the case, let us know and we'll do our best to work with you to make it right.

Care Instructions

Look after your Panama Hat and you will be able to enjoy it for many years.

  • The correct way of holding on to your hat is NOT from the crown as it is the most delicate part but from each side of the wings.
  • Clean your hat with soap and a soft white cloth.
  • Do not leave your hat in the direct sunlight or in dry locations as its colors might fade away.
  • Avoid to wear your hat under the rain as it might lose its shape.
  • If your hat gets to dry you can spray very little clean water on top of it.
  • Keep your hat in a humid and cool place to keep its original shape and softness like a bathroom or the basement.
